Mission Outreach
Church and Community Outreach Council Mission
StatementThe Church and Community
Outreach Council of the First United Church of Christ, inspired by
Christ's example of reaching out to the world with Christian love
and caring, seeks to fulfill our mandate as God's people by reaching
out to those who suffer, standing alongside those who are oppressed,
and rejoicing with those that are seeking new possibilities in their
lives. We seek to involve our church in actions that bring
hope and well being to our local, regional, national and world
community. We are called to do this because we are so filled
with the joyful spirit of love given to us by our lord that we
cannot resist sharing the good news with others. We consider
our mission actions to be a prayer of thankful action reflecting
God's love for this world.
"My
Brother's Table" Soup Kitchen
First Church participates four times a year with "My Brother's Table,"
a Saturday soup kitchen at the Carlisle Salvation Army. This is
an opportunity of service which includes providing food and serving the
meal. Contact David McKibben council chairperson at 776-3476 for more
information.
Food Weekend
Food weekend is the second weekend of each month.
At the Saturday evening service and the two services on Sunday food staples
are collected in baskets for Project Share, the local food bank. Our church concentrates on
collecting cans/jars of spaghetti sauce but other food items are
also collected. These staples help feed hungry and needy
families
in the Carlisle Area.
Community Support
First church provides financial support to local
charitable organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Safe Harbour,
Project Share, Habitat for Humanity, Truck Stop Ministry, Domestic
Violence Shelter, and Fruitbelt Farmworker Christian
Ministry.
Mission Work
Church and Community Outreach Council organizes
yearly mission trips of one to two weeks. Mission trips since
2000 have supported and aided Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, MS,
Habitat for Humanity in Robbins, TN, and the Lakota UCC
congregations located on the Cheyenne Indian Reservation in South
Dakota. Contact David McKibben council chairperson at 776-3476
for more information.
