Children’s Fellowship Ages 4 through grade 5. They meet once a month September through May.
Vacation Bible School (VBS) Four evenings, usually Monday through Thrusday 6:00pm-8:00pm, in summer under one theme, with a Bible lesson, songs, arts and crafts, snacks and activities, VBS is for ages 4 through grade 5.
Confirmation Program  For youths in grades 7 and/or 8, September through May. The Confirmation Celebration is typically held on Pentecost Sunday. Confirmation at First United Church of Christ’s goal with Confirmation is to initiate our Youth into the Church and educate them about its joys, mysteries and responsibilities. As part of the Confirmation journey we strive to educate and involve them in what it means to be a Christian in the world today. Confirmation candidates meet with pastors for Sunday School class. Every confirmation candidate has a mentor. The class participates in field trips and in a weekend retreat.
ADULTS Some classes may not meet in the Summer.

Adult Book Chat Book Chat meets each 1st and 3rd Sunday from 9:15a.m. – 10:30a.m. All are welcome to join in lively conversation, home-baked goodies, friendship and Christian fellowship!


Reading the Bible Tuesday mornings 10:00am-11:30am,  A Bible Study in the Church Parlor. This group reads, examines, explores and discusses the assigned lectionary scripture readings for the coming Sunday, or chooses one entire book from the Bible to study with the help of a study book .


Green Groups - Earth Stewards These groups are advocates for the environment. They discuss possibilities and opportunities for our church to become a greener church.

Girl Scouts Meeting times are the first and third Tuesdays at 6:00pm to 7:30pm in the scout room in the church.
Guardian Angel Club This is open to all men and women of the church who are willing to serve as a secret and unknown friend to one selected person for a period of one year, doing acts of kindness and remembering them in prayers and on special days. The angel remains anonymous for one year, and then at a brunch or luncheon the name of the angel is revealed. At this luncheon new names are put into a box and each angel selects a new name for the next year. This luncheon is the only meeting of the group.

2nd Tuesday Group This is a noontime activity on the second Tuesday of the month. Everyone is welcome.There is no formal membership, just show up. Because of the time frame, almost all of the persons attending the meetings are retired or ones that usually have Tuesday noon time open. Volunteers cook and serve a light lunch. A donation of $5 per person is usually made to help pay for the food served. After the meal there is a short entertainment of various sorts. There is a different group of persons cooking and serving the meals almost every month.People are asked to sign up beforehand, so that the cooks know about how much food to prepare. There are no Summer meetings.

First Ladies This is a service organization of ladies from First Church. They do fund raising for various special needs of our church members, such as providing a meal for persons suffering from a serious illness or loss. They meet on the last Thursday of the month in restaurants in the local area. All are welcome to join.

Prayer Shawl Ministry This group is open to all needle workers. They meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays, in the church parlor at 7:00pm. In addition to prayer shawls, they make lap blankets and baby blankets. Needle workers of all ages and levels are welcome.

Altar Guild This group is in charge of the altar decoration.

Chancel Guild This group is in charge of the seasonal decorations around the altar and sanctuary.

Flower Delivery This group of volunteers delivers the flowers from the altar to sick and shut ins every Sunday after the 10:45 service.

Bingo At Thornwald Volunteers from our congregation join with residents at Thornwald Retirement Community to play bingo.

Worship and Praise Band This group of volunteers plays at various church services throughout the year.

MY BROTHER'S TABLE: First United Church of Christ members volunteer to cook and serve meals four Saturdays a year at the Carlisle Salvation Army’s soup kitchen(for 2015: March 28, May 9, August 8, and November 21).

PROJECT SHARE: On the second weekend of each month, baskets of non-perishable food items are collected during our worship services for our local food bank.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT: Church members provide financial support and volunteer service to local charitable organizations: Meals on Wheels, Safe Harbor, Project Share, Habitat for Humanity, Truck Stop Ministry, Domestic Violence Shelter, Fruitbelt Farmworker, Christian Ministry, Samaritan Fellowship and Carlisle CARES.

CARLISLE CARES: We join with a team of community churches to provide safe, supervised sleeping facilities for Carlisle’s homeless citizens. Our church provides sleeping facilities for the month of March.

MISSION WORK: Members of our congregation participate in yearly mission trips, previous years have included trips to  Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, MS, Habitat for Humanity in Robbins, TN, and Lakota UCC congregations of the Cheyenne Indian Reservation in South Dakota. This year, there will be a mission trip to Neon, Kentucky (May 10-16) to work with the HOMES organization.

WORLD MISSION: Our congregation endeavors through contributions of time, talent, funds and prayer to alleviate human suffering throughout the world.
