Beloved in Christ,
On the 23rd of May we will celebrate the Festival of Pentecost once again! Every year this late spring festival comes forth on the fiftieth day (seven weeks) after Easter Sunday. Pentecost means “fifty” in the Greek language. Originally, the Festival of Pentecost was celebrated by the Jewish people as a harvest event when the first grain, such as barley, was ready to harvest in the fields. The festival celebrated the Holy One’s gift of the Ten Commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai. Traditionally, Moses received these Ten about fifty days after he had led his people’s exodus out of Egypt “by the strong arm of the Lord God of Israel”.
