Christian Education for All AgesIntroduction
Welcome to the Christian Education program at
First United Church of Christ. Our goal is to provide opportunities
for spiritual growth and faithful discipleship for our children,
youth and adults. Sunday school begins at 9:00 a.m. and
concludes at 10:30 a.m.

1. Nursery
Available during the 10:45 a.m. Sunday morning service. The Nursery
is staffed by a rotating group of adults.

2. Pre-K through Grade 2
Teaching Staff: William and Lisa Harrison, Theresa Martin and
Connie Herman
Our curriculum, Exploring Faith, has an action packed
Bible story each week with crafts and games that reinforce the
story. Included in each week’s class time are Cherub Choir
practice and a trip to the Harrison-Sheafer Children’s library.

3. Grades 3-5
Teaching Staff: Denny Eckman and Mona Huston
Our curriculum, Exploring Faith, encourages our
students and their teachers to develop a deep and life-giving
relationship with God, respond in faith to Jesus Christ's love and
identify themselves as children of God as they grow in discipleship.
The children in third grade receive a Bible at the beginning of the
school year. Included in class time is Joyful Noise Choir
practice.

4. Grades 6-8
Teaching Staff: Candy Hoff and Terry Kramer
Our students in sixth through eighth grade are
using Bible Quest. The students will read and interpret the
Bible stories, connect the story with their own experiences and
discover how to live in the world as disciples of Jesus Christ.

5. Grades 9-10
Facilitator: Jason Brode
This class meets the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month downstairs
in the Senior High classroom.

6. Confirmation Program
Facilitators: Pastor Monica and Pastor Lynn.
Our Confirmation Program is open to students in
grades 8. The program has two parts: a Mentor program and class
discussions with the pastors. Additional requirements include a one
day worship retreat, a trip to the National Cathedral and Islamic
Center in Washington DC, Penn Central Conference Confirmation
retreat at Hartman Center and community service hours.

7. Kids' Power Hour
Our Kids’ Power Hour program consists of three parts; the
Learning Center for students ages 4-through grade 2, the Computer
Center for students up to grade 5 and Nursery care for infants and
toddlers. Our Kids’ Power Hour program is held during the 10:45 a.m.
worship service after the Children’s Sermon (or during the 10:00
a.m. worship service for the summer).
The Learning Center is a structured program that includes a
lesson, a craft project and a snack. The James Fecko Computer Center
has five computers loaded with Bible games and word processing
programs. Our Nursery has two cribs, changing table, toys and books
for infants and toddlers.

8. James Fecko Memorial Computer Center
We have five computers loaded with Microsoft
Office programs and children’s Bible games software. The center
is used during class time by Sunday school students, during Kids'
Power Hour and by adults.

The Harrison - Sheafer Children’s Library:
Librarians: Barbara and Dick Weary
This Library is open Sunday mornings 9:00 to
10:15 a.m. During class time the
Pre - K through second grade students come and
check out books, videos and DVDs. Older students are also invited to
check items out of the library.

10. Adult Class: Gathering in the Parlor
Facilitated by Michelle Brode & Jean Benfield.
This class meets on the 1st & 3rd Sundays of each month,
9:15-10:30 a.m. in the Parlor. This fall we are reading A
Year to Live by Stephen Levine. Join us for Coffee &
Conversation.

11. Adult Class: Upper Room
Facilitated by Donna Hale.
This class meets each Sunday morning, 9:30-10:30 a.m. on the
third floor in the Upper Room. A variety of topics are explored.

12. Tuesday Morning Bible Study Group
Facilitated by Pastor Lynn and Pastor Monica
Every Tuesday morning, 10:00—11:30 a.m. in the Parlor. We read,
examine, explore and discuss the Lectionary Readings for the
upcoming weekend worship services.

13. Men’s bible Study
Facilitator: Pastor Lynn
A focus on particular books of the Bible in an informal style
that encourages discussion. They meet on Wednesday, 6: 30-7: 30 p.m.
in the church Parlor.

14. Women’s Bible Study
Facilitator: Pastor Monica
A focus on scripture and curriculum that help us develop our
spiritual lives. They meet the 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
in the church parlor.
